I then took my favorite collage–I chose the goldfish– and flattened out the image. I used Procreate to trace over objects and block out simple colors.
After flattening the image, I exported it back into Photoshop, where I repeated the frames and shifted the fish in order to create a short, looping animation, also known as a gif.
The story behind Something Fishy is related to the saying “don’t judge a fish for how well it climbs a tree.” Early in grade school students are labeled gifted, on track, or behind, oftentimes not considering the circumstance of that student. Schools promote a very specific style of learning, and if a student isn’t wired to think the same way, they often get left behind rather than someone taking the time to figure how that child best learns.
