Marquia recently graduated from Davidson College in 2022, receiving her B.A. in Studio Art. The following fall, she returned to her alma mater to complete a two-year fellowship program centered on Arts Management. She will spend her time working with two campus organizations: The Jay Hurt Hub Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Davidson Arts and Creative Engagement. During her time as a student, she was heavily involved with both programs in various forms: from leading arts enrichment at Ada Jenkins to participating in the Nesbit Venture Fund Pitch competition, .
Her interest in arts management led her to Penland School of Craft as a Donor Stewardship intern managing communication between scholarship recipients and donors. Although she won’t be in the studio as much this year, Marquia is excited to facilitate opportunities for creatives–both on campus and in our community–to participate in educational programming.
There are three things that truly made a difference during my time at Davidson: exposure, education, and experience. Exposure to all the things you wouldn’t see in rural North Carolina: the plays, the high-profile speakers, the groups of artists who are creating their own spaces. Education that provides deep dives into subjects we take for granted like housing, K12 education, and the environment. Experiences that placed me in the room with some of the biggest minds in tech, arts and culture, and entertainment. Now returning to Davidson as a staff member, I hope to create more opportunities for students to be engaged in various ways with their peers, staff/faculty, and the greater Charlotte community.
